My brother-in-law has @Home, and it has been fast and absolutely
reliable for a couple of years.  He is apparently the exception as I
have heard lots of complaints. He can't really explain it, but he is in
a new neighbourhood (new wiring) and has had a number of students who
work at the local @Home service department who have "checked" his line
and pronounced it good. It is my understanding that there are settings
that can be adjusted from the provider end of things to give better
performance.  He just counts himself one of the lucky ones.
