Subj : Realplayer opens Netscape visiting sit To : Mark Lewis From : Jim Rysyk Date : Wed Aug 23 2000 05:19 pm > CERT(r) Advisory CA-2000-15 Netscape Allows Java Applets to Read > Protected Resources I found another security problem using Realplayer basic Ver 7, or Beta 8 with Win 98SE. I wounder if the same thing could occure under OS/2? This week, probally yesterday, visiting "ZDTV" site for streaming video NEWS, the site caused my Netscape 4.74 to fire up, and to http over to ZDTV. Then just a few hours ago when I was away having supper, I had netscape 4.74 sessions on three sites, and Realplayer Audio just finished a web broadcast, one of the sites or someone was causing my 1-Meg modem to transfer something. Killing one http session to a registration screen site for broadcast.com I beleive, caused the modem to stop Xfering what ever was being transfered. Possible the transfer was over. The WEB cast was over for several minutes, but I took longer to finish lunch, and do the dishes, before getting back to the computer. As I understand it, ZDTV was taken over this week by Microsoft, after turfing the founder(s). Has anyone else experianced similar thing with Realplayer, and Netscape on any OS? I was forced to PPPoE, and the ISP only supplied PPPoE for Windows, so ... I had to stop surfing with OS/2. In five months, Windows has required more maintance, disk scans, defrags, cleanups, reboots, reinstalls, and has locked out more allegidley bad drive sectors, than OS/2 had in 10 years, the last three years this very same hardware ran OS/2 flawlessley before being reformated to Win 98 SE to use PPPoE in March. My personal opinion after 5 months, is this Win 98 SE OS should never been sent out to Beta. Anyone using Sympatico PPPoE with OS/2? --- FLAME v2.0/b * Origin: SORRY, Live Y2K Rollover date system test under way @ (1:12/242) .
