They are ways to encapsulate the authentication system for an always on connection. Essentially your local hdwr makes the connection to their radius box using the already existing ether or ATM connection and once you are authenticated the pipe will allow regular IP traffic to flow. This is for Jim and others: I would expect that Bjarn has an InJoy version to work PPPoE and probably even PPPoA but as I don't have ADSL nor am I likely to see it before 2001 I can't speak from personal knowledge. I would also suggest an alternative solution, that is to use a $200 ADSL sharing HUB that speaks to the DSL modem on one side and your local LAN on the other.
