Subj : Telnet OS/2 BBS w/Cell Phone? To : Peter Knapper From : Mike Luther Date : Mon Jan 03 2005 08:58 am Thanks Peter .. PK> Its pretty standard with all the recent Cell phone providerss these PK> days, the Cell phone user can dial a PSTN connection PK> of their ISP and access the internet from their cell PK> phone (at a price). Some phones have "mini" web PK> browsers built in, others provide a serial port that PK> can then be used from their PC/Laptop attached to the PK> phone. From there they use web browser, telnet, etc... Ah! Makes sense now .. PK> It reportedly PK> performs well because the data is digital all the way PK> and doesn't get modulated and demodulated like PK> standard analog PSTN modems, its more like and ISDN PK> connection. Interesting .. PK> I don't PK> trust anything that goes to air these days........;-) PK> You can always encrypt the traffic if the other end PK> plays ball, but your ISP has to offer the service. Nor me says the flea .. Playing VPN this way or something could be more of interest to me, but I'm not turned on by all kinds of freedoms. Even such things as OnStar have a price.. PK> Ditto here, I dont have one (I don't yet see the need PK> on a personal basis), but I carry one from work PK> because they want me to. I just get to ensure its only PK> ON when I want to contact someone OR be PK> contacted..........;-) Hej, as a high time multi-engine instrument flight instructor here even back in 1963 we were aware of the high percentage of aircraft accidents (incidents may be more so ..) that took place while the pilot was talking over the radio and so on. Let alone use the new ones with PICTURES to look at as well when driving??? Thanks for the education Peter. --> Sleep well; OS/2's still awake! ;) Mike @ 1:117/3001 --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Ziplog Public Port (1:117/3001) .
