Subj : Telnet OS/2 BBS w/Cell Phone? To : All From : Mike Luther Date : Mon Jan 03 2005 12:40 am Duhh .. Conversation with a new user at 1:117/3001 today via POTS produced comment that they would like access to Fido BBS via Telnet. OK, yes there are those of us OS/2 folk with Ray Gwinn's SIO or whatever which do have TelNet to our BBS's .. While not advertised as such I can do that ... But the discussion took what to me was a wild turn! Reason for access wanted for the party with a cell phone was that they have no POTS line here at Texas A&M and were using friend's POTS line for access. The gent on the other end of the voice line was an intensive UNIX oriented soul. He says if he has access to Fido via TelNet, he can access Fido via his cell phone .. And .. it works, at least for the initial trial connect. I know that this isn't an OS/2 only issue. But would somebody here care to expand my awareness of cell phone technology to properly orient me to this new way to get OS/2 FidoNet BBS users? As well, this has to be a two way street. Are we talking secured TelNet for cell phones? Or is this one of the ways nasty things are beginning to appear for these marvelous gadgets? I don't have one and haven't wanted one at this point. Inquiring mind wants to know..... --> Sleep well; OS/2's still awake! ;) Mike @ 1:117/3001 --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Ziplog Public Port (1:117/3001) .
