GH> 1: It screws up my video It works fine here for me, however it is VERY dependant on your Video subsystem... 1. What Make & Model of Video card are you using? 2. Which driver are you using? 3. What settings are you using? Please note that Netscape will NOT work correctly if you are only using 256 Colours, you MUST have 65536 or greater for it to work correctly. I am using a Matrox MGA-G200 card, Matrox driver v2.23.082, 1024x768x65536, and Netscape 4.61 has its "OS/2 Pallette aware" setting ON. I have the same setup on 2 machines and both are fine with these settings. The BBS machine is running an SIS 6326 at 64x480x65536 (the monitor can't handle much else and doesn't need it anyway). It has the same Netscape settings and it upsets the pallette for some apps (notably text mode OS/2 windows), however I rarely use Netscape on that machine so its not a major concern. Also go to - System Setup folder ==> System properties, and if you have a tab reading "256 Colors", try alternating the "Workplace shell paleltte aware" checkbox. My Matrox machines do not have this tab but the SIS machine does. Try alternating all possible combinations of the System Pallete setting and the the Netscape Pallette setting, to see if you can resolve the pallette problem. In a past lifeI found a combination that cured this problem, but I think that was with a Cirrus Chipset Video card. Your system may require a restart after each change to either of these 2 options. GH> 2: No Shockwave and or sound available ( yet I prolly just need some GH> drivers ). No sound card set up here yet so I can't comment on this part.....;-) GH> 3: Locks up on me regularly. Works flawlessly on the Matrox machines and has done so for quite some time. GH> How do I fix the above. I hate things like this when they happen. Don't we all. One of the main things I discovered about Netscape 4.61 is that things were markedly improved for me once I discovered the trick of not touching ANYTHING (neither Keyboard OR Mouse) until after Netscape has completely loaded. Moving the mouse while it was loading was guaranteed to lock things up. See a similar discssion about this exact problem discussed recently.
