I use InJoy to do my PPP dialup. You can launch it from anything that can 
trigger an OS2 app (lots of ways for doing that from a mailer). 

Yeah... real simple... talking in meta code...

ppp_dialout
sleep 20 seconds wait for ppp interface to be stable
fiftp -c config.fil
kill ppp_dialout

Alternatively

mailer exits with appropriate errlvl to launch InJoy
   |
  \_/ 
 InJoy
   |-> FiFtp is spawned
   |
   |-> InJoy is set to hang up & exit when FiFtp is finished. 
   |
   \ mailer is restarted by wrapper script

The kill command is available from hobbes. You want the version that can kill 
an app by name or else you have to use grep & cut to grab the pid from the ps 
(or pstat or go) command.
