Subj : Warp 4 FP15 issues... To : All From : Peter Knapper Date : Wed Sep 07 2005 12:10 pm Hi Folks, Over the past few weeks I have started experiencing some wierd "instabilty" issues that may actually end up being some sort of H/W issue, things are just not too clear at the moment (it happens that I had also made a few other changes that may/may not be related). However I would like to try and eliminate any other options first. I have 3 x Warp 4 FP15 machines, only one has experienced the issues, the other 2 machines are as stable as ever (fingers crossed). About 3 weeks ago I started setting up XFree86, but never completed this before noticing this issue, so I have removed XF86 from Config.Sys and gone back to the orignal Config.Sys... but still have the same problem. My main stability issue relates to Star Office 5.1 (SO51), and in particular a spreadsheet. Since loading the XF86 driver I could get ONE startup of SO51 to work fine, a second invocation would usually (about 80% of the time) run for about 1-2 mins, then result in a keyboard/mouse/wps lockup, followed by a hard trap within SOFFICE.EXE. Removing XF86 made no apparent difference. My first efforts revolved around OS/2 Kernal replacements (I was way behind on these), starting with 14.097f and then trying more recent ones, but things only got worse (more frequent issues with SO51), and the lockups recently resulted in a KERNAL trap (IE not SO51) using 14.104a. So... what is your preferred/most stable Kernal for Warp 4 FP15? Following the last Kernal Trap I also experienced some loss of WPS objects, most noticeable are my Command Prompts objects (IE the Folder is present but is empty and I can still create and run an OS/2 box fine), and the Information Centre button within Warp Centre does not display the Help menu, but lists the desktop Icons just the same as the "OS/2 Warp" Button on the left. My x:\Desktop Folder tree is still there - ============================================================ Desktop OS!2 System Assistance!!Center Information Online Information Overview Read Me Reference and Commands Tasks Troubleshooting WarpGuide Command!!Prompts Connections Drives Network File and Print Client^Resource Brows ============================================================ I can navigate that tree ok, BUT no .INF files are listed (although they are all still there and can be loaded manually fine. Most of this looks pretty bad to me, so I am trying to decide should I replace the HD (it chkdisks ok and there is no Lost+Found) before I do a complete re-build? When I re-build I would be using eCS 1.2 (I have had it here a while but decided not to rebuild/upgrade until there was a real need... I guess I now have that need). Anyone got any other ideas that may help? Thanks.................pk. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Another Good Point About OS/2 (3:772/1.10) .
