In this case, the UPS is connected to the Linux box (Fedora Core 4) using USB. I want OS/2 to get the information about the status via the network and see that a power event (loss of power, restored power, battery low) has taken place, and respond appropriately. In this case, the battery low would need to execute a clean shutdown. BJ> Have you checked the other UPS programs that have been mentioned to BJ> see if they would work for you? Ah, based on other messages you have. True. I wrote, and got a reply from Armin Schwarz (Lone Peak Automation), who made UPSMON. He suggested seeing how apcupsd communicates with the network, and then using REXX to call the shutdown script if needed. That might be the simplest way to do what I wanted. Since even that is beyond my current capability, I took the wimpy way out and retrieved an UPS (APC BackUPS Pro 280pnp) from another location, and hooked it back up using the serial port. I now have it running with UPSMON again, and am satisfied that the system is protected, even though the runtime is going to be much shorter. Regards, Stephen Team OS/2, Team PPoint/IREX ....
