Subj : "stuck" open files To : Marc Lewis From : Peter Knapper Date : Sun Aug 14 2005 11:03 am Hi Marc, ML> I have run into a few occasions of a log file (Maximus ML> specifically) that have been left 'dirty'. Needless to ML> say, when that happens that particular node of the BBS ML> won't spawn. What OS (and version) and App (and version) are you talking about? I have never seen an OS/2 version of Maximus leave any file "open" at all, its always been very clean in that respect. I can't speak for any DOS versiosn though, I have run Dos in a LLOONNGG time now........;-) ML> Is there a method of closing these ML> aberrant files other than rebooting the machine? Are you sure that the Task that had the file open has in fact "gone"? I can't recall ever seeing any OS/2 task hold open a file after the task has gone. The times a file has still been held "open", the process that last touched that file was still present in the system, even though it wasn't always "visible" to the average user. Grab a good process listing utilty such as TOP and see if something is still running. Sometimes you may find the odd task that becomes a true Zombie and cannot be "touched" by anything, then you are simply out of luck, but I have never seen Maximus like that. Cheers..............pk. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Another Good Point About OS/2 (3:772/1.10) .
