Subj : new modem, slower speed To : all From : Alan Hess Date : Fri Jul 29 2005 04:57 pm With Comcast updating their base download speed to 6Mbits from 4Mbits July 31, I was told by Comcast tech support that the cable modem I had, a 3Com CMX (discontinued model, Docsis 1.0) wouldn't handle the increased speed, so I bought a Motorola SB5100 cable modem. The modem was attached, and Comcast was called to provision it, and record it in my account. With that done, I'm getting slower download speed than with the 3Com! I was getting 4M downloads, as I should have - with the new modem, I'm getting less than 3M downloads. What can I do to fix this? Comcast says the modem is properly configured, so they don't know why the download speed is now slower. I've done the router unplug and modem unplug thing - no change. Any ideas from you all? I'm using eCS 1.15 with Mozilla and/or Firefox, and the download tests at broadbandreports.com. *adh* --- Msged/2 6.0.1 * Origin: tncbbs.no-ip.com - Try the CROSSFIRE echo - all welcome (1:261/1000) .
