I have this always disabled and never have more than 64 Mb installed when installing OS/2. Neither have I ever felt the need for more! GM>This may be the reason that it took me seven hours before I gave up. GM>What are your recommendations of how I should partition this HDD and GM>what file format? Since I don't know what you want to install it's difficult to suggest. First of all, install the OS/2 BootManager that you access through advanced installation. I have a 20 Mb partition for PC-DOS 7.0 on the first partition. That is also the only primary partition on my system. All other partitions are in one big extended partition. I suppose you know that you can install any Windows version on logical partitions within the extended partition. The only requirement is that you have a c: partition to start from. Then I have several 128 and 250 Mb FAT partitions and at the end of the 2 Gb space I have a 170 Mb (120 is enough) partition for the OS/2 operating system and another similar partition for OS/2 programs. Both the last partitions are HPFS. If you wish you can also install OS/2 on FAT partitions. It works very well but you may run into trouble when trying to install some programs that require HPFS. This BBS computer runs only FAT partitions because that way drive letters don't change after the HPFS partitions when/if I want to access these partitions from DOS. On my work computer I do have OS/2 installed on the last two partitions which are HPFS. GM>position of the IDE-0. The Master and Slave positions of IDE-1 are GM>currently empty, but I can insert a tray that holds a MS-DOS v6.22 GM>(WfW 3.11) - 3GB or a tray that holds Windows 98 Second Edition - GM>6.18GB... These you can install on partitions before the HPFS OS/2 partitions. After the installation of OS/2 you can format as many partitions beyond the 2 Gb border as you wish. Just remember that accessing these after the HPFS partitions will not have the same drive letters for other operating systems as for OS/2. GM>I believe that by going to the WarpDoctor Clinic GM>, downloading WARP4IU1.EXE, GM>and extracting the files to a floppy diskette, I hope I resolved GM>that issue. It's possible. GM>That's going to be sometime in the distant future because I have to GM>get the OS installed first and then I'll be asking where I might GM>locate the Fix Paks... :-))) The fixpaks are available from Hobbes. I recommend FP12. The later fixpaks require you to learn the intricasies of LVM which is a new version of partitioning. Don't take only my opinion for the only correct one but listen also to others in this echo and make up your own opinion. Regards, Holger ___ * MR/2 2.30 * Stay alive!
