Subj : Thats the picture... To : Peter Knapper From : Baden Kudrenecky Date : Mon May 30 2005 09:05 am Responding to Peter Knapper from 1905-04-24 concerning Thats the picture..., on Os2 Hi Peter: PK> Hi Baden, PK> PK> BK> My camera, along with most higher end cameras, uses PK> BK> a Compact Flash memory card (CF) This is a very common PK> BK> and economical format, and a CF PCMCIA card reader PK> BK> costs less than $20. OS/2 had excellent card reader PK> BK> support, so it is no problem for me to copy over all PK> BK> the images, as the CF card shows up as just another PK> BK> drive. PK> PK> This sounds pretty much what I am looking for. Except I am PK> a bit behind the times on all the technical details of the PK> components......;-) PK> PK> Ok, my research reveals that a CF PCMCIA Card Reader PK> appears not to be PCMCIA specific at all, but a USB Card PK> Reading device that reads "CF Memory Cards". I note that PK> local suppliers offer a bewildering variety of card PK> readers, often quoted as "5 in 1" up to "15 in 1" USB 2.0 PK> Card Readers. Most seem to support the "CF" standard. One PK> such device that seems popular in NZ is - PK> Belkin F5U249, 15 in 1 Card Reader, USB 2. PK> Media supported includes - PK> - XD Picture Card, CompactFlash I, CompactFlash II, SmartMedia?, PK> Secure Digital, Mini Secure Digital (Mini SD)**, MultiMediaCard, PK> RSMMC**, IBM) Microdrive? PK> - Memory Stick), Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo**, PK> Memory Stick Pro Duo, Memory Stick MagicGate*, and PK> Memory Stick MagicGate Duo** PK> PK> I guess the "CompactFlash I, CompactFlash II" looks like the CF cards... PK> Is this the sort of thing you are talking about? What USB PK> specific driver support is required under OS/2 for these? Sorry about the delay . . . The CF to PCMCIA adaptors are not USB. They are only flat PCMCIA cards that the CF card fits into, and OS/2 reads as an IDE drive. They are brain dead, and I think they don't even have any active components, just straight through conductors. hasta luego, baden baden@baden.nu http://baden.nu/ ___ þ KWQ/2 1.2i þ --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: COMM Port OS/2 juge.com 204.89.247.1 (281) 980-9671 (1:106/2000) .
