They /LIE/ like politicians to get people, heh. Charter's advertised speeds are 3mb/256kb (ugh, that's a terrible upload). Unfortunately, I can't get my DSL transferred up there (and /THAT'S/ gonna cost me $175 in "early termination" fees-I'm gonna terminate someone early when I have to cough that cash up!), so it's cable I go. My parents can't use their satellite dish there (it's in an area of the country that isn't well-serviced, I guess). But at least I can get cable and cable broadband. Carbondale, Illinois (where I lived before here) didn't have ANY broadband until 2003. As for the speeds, I just take off 10-15% and call it good for the upload speed. Download speed doesn't bother me, but it's the upload. I'm actually thinking about installing Injoy Firewall as the main router for my system. I've gone 100% OS/2 (I'm no longer running Windows for myself personally), so either this box will be the router or I'll go get a decent 8-port router or something. My wife wants wireless as she's buying a new Macintosh laptop for school, so I guess I'll be slapping a WAP on the router. I personally don't want my machines on wireless (save for my laptop) as I have things going across the LAN that I don't want to be observed except for the people intended. ;) Later, Sean // hausmaus@darktech.org | http://midnightshour.net | ICQ: 19965647 --- GoldED+/EMX 1.1.5-21020 * Origin: Outpost BBS - Kennesaw, GA - outpostbbs.net (1:18/200) .
