That was certainly true with the TimeWarner RoadRunner connection I had for three years in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (I could obtain a total throughput of around 2 Mbit/second if I used several concurrent connections, which was much better than my old 640Kbit/252Kbit RADLS connection, but it was rare for me to see individual xfers faster than 70KBytes/second, and sometimes at night things really slowed down. It was fairly reliable, though. The Charter Cable connection I have down here in Georgia is different in terms of speed -- I regularly see ftp and http transfers in the 250-300KByte/second range (I think they claim a 3Mbit connection). My USWest/Qwest 640Kbit/252Kbit DSL connection gave me very consistent 65KByte transfers also, subject at times to server congestion. ....
