Subj : Mozilla vs IBM web browser To : Bat Lang From : Peter Knapper Date : Mon Apr 25 2005 01:52 pm Hi Bat, BL> It will take more than good luck, I fear. After uninstalling my Mozilla BL> installation, and unloading the IWB, I went to Innotek and reinstalled BL> the GCC runtime 5.01, then installed the .EXE version of Mozilla 1.8.4, Thats one difference, I have NOT used the .EXE form of Mozilla install since early 1.0 days, I simply had too many issues with many installs when using it. Since about 1.0/1.1 my process for each new release of Mozilla is to - 1. Grab the .ZIP file of the version I want, 2. UNZIP the .ZIP file into a NEW directory under my \Mozilla tree EG - \Mozilla \FireFox \Moz14 \Moz18 \PetesCommon \TBird I have had numerous Mozilla builds there, in fact its about time I removed 1.4, I can't see me going back there.......;-). I keep GCC in my "utilities" directory (\Utils\Dll) so its always available. 3. Copy any common files from PetesCommon as required, (EG Plugins and User.js, etc), 4. Run Mozilla and go straight into Edit ==> Preferences and set up the config for proxy/cache, etc. 5. I then Create program objects that point directly to the new executables, no PATH or LIBPATH changes required, and thats it. I have had numerous Mozilla builds there, in fact its about time I removed 1.4, I can't see me going back there.......;-) BL> I guess Mozilla is just too sticky for me, which is strange, because I BL> had an earlier vers (1.7) working for a while a month or so ago, but BL> overwrote it with 1.8.4, but it's not as if I didn't have a browser at BL> all! The failure scenario you describe (terminate immediately after start with no messages, absolutely nothing) is EXACTLY what happen if the wrong GCC version is still "active". I also dont think 1.8 should have been used to overwrite 1.7, that might have been about the time the compiler changed. The only overwrites should be for the same base level (1.7.x, 1.8.x, etc), and then only for the nightlies...
