Subj : Mozilla vs IBM web browser To : Peter Knapper From : Bat Lang Date : Sun Apr 24 2005 05:45 pm -=> Quoting Peter Knapper to Bat Lang, [24 Apr 05 08:00:42] <=- PK> Hi Bat, BL> I already had libc04 & 05 in d:\ecs\dll\ with all the 'right stuff' in BL> my CFSys file. I believe Herbert may have nailed it with the 'remove BL> IWB' so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for your reply. PK> Yes that sounds like it sorry, I forgot to mention that you CANNOT mix PK> the 2 forms of the Mozilla/Firefox product at RUN time because the PK> same function names exist in both forms of the .DLL but the are not PK> completely compatible. IE if you have Mozilla running (or loaded via PK> Fastload), you cannot start Firefox/Thunderbird, or vice versa, they PK> fight over shared resources. The same applies between 1.7 and 1.8 PK> versions of Mozilla and again, Faststart is easily forgotten. PK> If this is the problem you don't actually need to un-install anything, PK> just ensure the "other" product is not running at the time. This PK> should be fine because the GCC .DLL is unloaded and its possible to PK> switch between the 2 Mozillas/Firefox without a re-boot (I did this PK> for several weeks before I settled on 1.8). PK> Good luck............pk. It will take more than good luck, I fear. After uninstalling my Mozilla installation, and unloading the IWB, I went to Innotek and reinstalled the GCC runtime 5.01, then installed the .EXE version of Mozilla 1.8.4, but when I tried to execute it...Nada! No response at all, incl no error msg. So I reactivated IWB and have resigned myself to work with it for the present. It treats me right, and it WORKS! Thanks to everyone for their ideas. I guess Mozilla is just too sticky for me, which is strange, because I had an earlier vers (1.7) working for a while a month or so ago, but overwrote it with 1.8.4, but it's not as if I didn't have a browser at all! That IWB that came with eCS has been good to me. Good Modeming! /\oo/\ =- FidoNet-Mail: 1:382/61 or E-mail: Bat@ccsi.com --- Blue Wave/Max v2.30 * Origin: -=( The TechnoDrome )=- Austin,TX 512-327-8598 33.6k (1:382/61) .
