Subj : Mirror or backup progs?? To : Mike Powell From : Bob Jones Date : Mon Apr 18 2005 10:30 pm Mike: If you are using OS/2 Warp 3 or Warp 4 (pre MCP, Fixpak 16, etc.), then I haven't seen SYSINST X: mentioned to install some of the boot sectors or files on the disk. I don't remember if xcopy x:\* y:\ /H /O /T /S /E /R /V will grab all of that. As to boot manager, I have found that I have to DISCONNECT all harddisks with a BM partition on it and then connect the one where you want the new BM partion as the primary HD, and then install with FDISK. Note that I'm using Warp 4 with either Fix Pak 12 or 15. Once you have BM partions set up, you can have both HD's attached, but trying to update the BM partion will cause confusion..... I recommend allocating space for the BM partion on the new disk but not installing it on the new HD until you are done with the rest of the transfers. Then install it on the new HD with only that drive installed (assuming main boot is C:). When that work, put only the old HD in and remove BM from that disk. Now mount new and old HD, with new HD primary. Update BM as needed.... Yes, I've managed to copy an existing install from one drive to another using FDISK, FORMAT, SYSINST and XCOPY. It does take a bit of planning. Note: I have only used upto Warp 4 with the latest free fix pak. So, I haven't used LVM or the newer tools in this area. You will need updated IDE drivers (recommend DANIS506) for current IDE drives. Take care.....
