Subj : Mozilla vs IBM web browser To : Bat Lang From : Peter Knapper Date : Tue Apr 19 2005 10:22 am Hi Bat, BL> After installation completes, and I BL> reboot, when I click on the Mozilla icon, it briefly gets the 'striped BL> background', then returns to normal, and NADA! It sounds like Mozila v1.8 cannot find the GCC Runtime .DLL files that it needs... BL> mozilla-os2-1_8a4-installer.exe (from the Moz site?) From Mozilla 1.4, I tried Firefox 1.0 (didn't like that, too simplistic, not customisable enough and too much a Windows Weany style), I then moved to 1.8a5 direct without any of the in between versions and have been there ever since (~4 months now). It works great for me... It really does sound like the GCC Runtime (similar to the EMX runtime) is not available, the symptoms you report sound EXACTLY like that is missing. Note that the install docs included IN the Mozilla archive do not include specific details about the install for OS/2, you need to read the OS/2 install details on the Mozilla Web site see below) to get the details for the OS/2 install. If you went here to get Mozilla - http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ then follow these instructions (a link further down the above page) - http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.7/installation-ports.html#ports_os2 and get the latest GCC LIBC05 package from here - http://www.innotek.de/products/gccos2/download/gccos2download_e.html Basically, because the Compiler that was used for Mozilla was changed somewhere between v1.4 and v1.7, the GCC run-time became a required environment for the later builds. just place the 2 x .DLL flies somewhere on your LIBPATH and you should be fine. Good luck.............pk. --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Another Good Point About OS/2 (3:772/1.10) .
