Subj : Mirror or backup progs?? To : Mike Powell From : Holger Granholm Date : Sun Apr 17 2005 10:03 pm In a message dated 04-16-05, Mike Powell said to All: Hi Mike, MP>So, I would like to move the system to another drive. Basically, MP>the PC has two physical drives, one split into boot mgr, C:, and E:, MP>and the other drive is D:. I want to move D: and E: to a new drive, MP>and then make the second (D:) the primary, and move C: to it. First of all, you didn't mention which file system you are using. I take it that it's FAT and also that the second drive (D:) has the system (format /s) installed on it. MP>Can this be done without reinstalling OS/2? Sure! MP>Is there some sort of mirrordir program, like there is for linux, MP>that will allow me to copy the whole drives over to their new MP>locations? I'm using FAT on the BBS hd's and to keep the second hd updated I use Patriquins PCOPY program in a weekly event. It copies new and changed files on the primary HD to the secondary HD and deletes files on the secondary that have been deleted on the primary HD. In the daily events I use xcopy to copy some files/directories that change on a daily basis. PCOPY is a DOS program and isn't Y2K compatible so it writes the year 105 in the log file but other than that it works perfectly. Also, Norton Ghost v5.1x was delivered free with some motherboards and is an ideal program to move the contents between HD's. MP>Also, what do you do to back your system up? Pcopy! As long as I have two HD's in the machine that are mirrored I don't need a separate backup program.
