Interesting question........;-) I asked that one myself some time back, and the digging I did suggested that yes, Replication is actually a function of the entire SMB environment, so theoretically, that means it is probably included in Windows Networking, SAMBA, etc... HOWEVER, I have had a really hard time finding out more details on this on the other platforms (I have no real need for it myself). Note that the NET command seems to have parameters that are pretty much identical on all these platforms... So in theory is can possibly be done on any of those platforms, but how to get access to control it may be a black art. If the same files as used under OS/2 exist on these other platforms you may be able to figure it out... If you have Windows or SAMBA running, typing "NET START" should list all running services such as this - [E:\Z]net start These services are started: REQUESTER MESSENGER PEER REPLICATOR The command completed successfully. [E:\Z] So if you type NET START REPL is should either - 1. Come back and say it doesn't know the command, 2. Complain that something is not configured, 3. Start the service with an unknown result. Under OS/2 this comes up as - [E:\Z]net stop repl The REPLICATOR service is stopping. The REPLICATOR service was successfully stopped. [E:\Z]net start repl The REPLICATOR service is starting.. The REPLICATOR service was started successfully. (C) Copyright IBM Corporation 1988, 1998. All rights reserved. (C) Copyright Microsoft Corporation 1988, 1991. All rights reserved. [E:\Z] It needs 2 matching host configs (and an export directive) to actually run so it probably doesn't hurt to try it on one machine and see what happens. Just use "NET STOP REPL" to close anything that does start. I know you can start the REPLICATOR on OS/2 with no config (and nothing actually happens), so the other environments may be similar...
