I have used FastKick141 (from Hobbes) toisntal a Fixpack from the HD and that 
works fine for me.

If you have access to a CD-Writer then you might way to check out UPDCD, it 
allows you to build a self-booting Install CD complete with all Fixpacks you 
want applied.
