I didn't have any problems with the old Linksys router. It provided DHCP & DNS. It just gave my systems the wrong domain name. The Netgear (new router) has more bells. It can have a reserved DHCP address for a box, and allow only the MAC addresses listed to go out, has SPI and a few other features I don't really care about.
