Looks like all the other files are there. So why no JD> control.dat file? Maybe someone could point me to an explanation of JD> the structure of these various file types? I believe that CONTROL.DAT is always required (with .QWK, anyway). It contains important info. about the mail packet (and the BBS that generated it) that is used by the mail reader. If you search your drive for it, the next time you're reading a packet that contains it, you'll be able to open it with a text editor, and view it (just don't save any changes to it ). JD> 4) Some packets also give unpack errors, CRC errors. What's that JD> mean? One possible reason for this occurring is that the packets are getting a little mangled on download (this could also explain the missing CONTROL.DAT file, which may be only missing from the index of the mail packet archive, if it's corrupt, and/or truncated). Neither of the above errors should be occurring. I suggest writing a message to the sysop of the system where you get your mail, asking him/her about the errors. Before you do that, though, run a Thorough Scandisk on your drive, to make sure it's error-free, and reliable. If you can't get the problems resolved (and you're pretty sure the problems aren't at your end), I can recommend the Hall of Fame BBS (telnet://fame.darktech.org) as a reliable source of mail.
