Subj : MMTerm? To : Jim Hanoian From : Max Chamberlain Date : Mon Apr 16 2001 03:45 pm Quoting Jim Hanoian to Ben Carpenter about MMTerm?... JH> JH>A lot of people don't realize that QWK does not support the JH>kludge lines that Fido BBSs use... lines that Fido uses to JH>support the foundation of the network. A quick check of JH>the few messages in this BW packet showed kludge lines with JH>keywords such as MSGID, PID, GID, REPLY, CHRS, SEENBY, and JH>PATH. QWK lacks these entirely. I need to get a clarification on this point, Jim. What you say seems to be at odds with what I'm experiencing at Doc's Place BBS. I'll tell you the same thing I have mentioned to Ed Koon, the SysOp at Doc's Place, which is a Wildcat board, BTW. I telnet to two BBSes, Doc's Place and Chowda BBS, and get only QWK packets from each. 1. There are never any of the kluge lines you describe above in any of the messages I get from Chowda regardless of whether I use MultiMail or Offline Express (OLX-TD). 2. If I use MultiMail to read the messages from Doc's Place, no kluge lines are shown in any messages. 3. If I use OLX-TD to read the messages from Doc's Place, I do not see kluge lines in those messages that were posted directly to Doc's Place, but those messages that were posted to a BBS other than Doc's Place DO contain kluge lines. Recaping: MultiMail -- No kluge lines at all regardless of which BBS the QWK packet came from. OLX-TD -- No kluge lines at all from Chowda. No kluge lines from Doc's Place if the message was posted to DP. DO get kluge lines from Doc's Place in those messages that originated from some other BBS. My conclusions: - MultiMail has some sort of filter that screens out any kluge lines. - This filter is lacking in OLX-TD. - Chowda BBS zaps any kluge lines in outgoing QWK packet messages. - Doc's Place doesn't generate kluge lines, but will pass them on if the message already contains them. TTYL, Max .... All generalizations are bad. --- * OLX-TD * * Origin: Chowdanet (401-331-5587) telnet://chowdanet.com (1:323/120) .
