It wasn't just the name, but the archive format and compression algorithms that were changed. SEA's case against PKWare over ARC had renewed interest for me of late, as their arguments bore much resemblance to those which Hector Santos tried to bludgeon me with over OPX. (That is, to the extent that anything resembling a coherent argument ever came out of him.) Note that SEA's claims were never upheld by a court; PKWare only settled, because they couldn't afford the fight. Actual decisions in similar cases since then have denied similar claims (i.e., favored the defendant). ....
