I have greatly benefitted from the QWK concept over the years - not just as a user, but in making Fidonet available to a set of classroom computers via a slippernet (inward packets distributed by floppy disc; class replies on disc amalgamated into one packet at the office for dispatch over the only modem back to a BBS). The technique remains (in my ex-Army Signals view of communications) far superior to internet email, providing for brief phone contact, precise and secure comms in speedy ways.
