Tellason -> all >>greetings!<< @ 15 Jun 03 04:08:51 RJT> Nice to see a bunch of familiar "faces" in here. :-) About faces... is there a proposal about associating images with Fido persons? Of course, it'd be most useful in GUI environments. The only thing I've met is GIF kludge in GoldEd: " GIF:. Invented by Henk Wever and used in his Dutchie software. The filename (which does not have an extension) indicates a .GIF picture of the author of the message. If you have the GIF file on your system, you can setup an external utility to view the gif at the press of a key. " I've got a few problems with this: * GIF - It's not the best choice for that patent nonsense and its technical limitations. JFIF(JPEG) is a lot better. * filename - uniqueness. It should be a uuid. * repository - How do you download the files? It's not difficult to whip up a web server script that archives the files the client script requests. Downloading only new or updated pictures is easy, too. The tricky part is uploading. It should be authenticated (to prevent funny kids changing your pictures), but there's no global authentication in Fido. If we forget the kludge, and instead use name+node number to look up pictures, the server could at least use netmail for authentication. * no-one cares :) --- SkyReader/Linux v1.01a-7 * Origin: COMM Port OS/2 juge.com 204.89.247.1 (281) 980-9671 (1:106/2000) .
