I was just reading in "Green Witchcraft" by Ann Moura that while her 
mother was a Catholic witch and didn't have the threefold law she 
did believe that what you did came back to you so you should always do
good.  She feels that it is possible Gardner was expressing views that 
the witches before wicca had only his way of writing them was not how
they would have put it.
