I don't agree with _everything_ he said but it'd be interesting as a conversation starter... Rai -----Original Message starts----- "Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action." - Benjamin Disraeli Robin: Disraeli was the diplomat's diplomat, a Jew who attained prominence in an anti-Semitic sociey, the England of Queen Victoria. He was not known for philosophical commentary, but he was clearly not so superficial as most who hold such office these days tend to appear. So, about action....Can we hold heartfelt views and be complacent? Do not the views we hold demand we act on them? We discuss things online, but then we go back and watch television or sit before the computer monitor and do nothing, nothing at all. What is wrong with this picture? The Meditation Tip of the Day - June 05, 2001 -------------------------------------------- Once a person has stopped discrimination, banished delusion, and ended the trick of thought, he will be full of inner peace and there is naturally the state of nothingness. Zenji Robin: This state of 'nothingness' is simply to be free. It means, there is no one to protect, nothing to defend, simple emptiness. We generate a 'self' out of our judgments, our taking of positions. But this is a false self, an ego made of nothing but positioning. Can this then be all that we are? If it is, how very sad... Taking insight, we go beyond the surface. We arrive at a placeless place, a timeless time. We let go of ego, all ego, even a hint of ego, and we become free. Still, as Alan Watts said, "Egoless beings may have very strong personalities." By letting go of the false, we invite the real to fill us up. In the light of the real, the false is shined away as a dingy shadow in the light of day. Then we have more, not less, self. It is rather amazing. --- Msged/2 4.00 * Origin: Elfwhere - The POINTy eared POINT (3:640/531.2379) .
