SD> I'd love to come down to Oz one of these days. I simply don't SD> have the cash right now; there's a few BBS friends and MOO friends SD> that I'd like to visit. With our Aussie $ falling like mad it's a great time to come over. >.. [chomp]... RLA>> From an outsider's POV ... but completely refused to even RLA>> acknowledge, that different cultures/nations have different RLA>> laws & different POV's. ... forever having to explain in words RLA>> of one syllable or less that Australia's land mass is the same RLA>> size as mainland USA, ... SD> Yeah, I knew that about the landmass thing. Ask any Sydney taxi driver how many tales has he heard about visitors with 3 hour stopovers wanting to "pop over to Perth" );-) Admitedly not all "Yanks" but a goodly number of them were... SD> But, it seems that more and more, people are more narrow-minded SD> in their points-of-view concerning the world... a bit too myoptic, SD> unfortunately. Well we all have our down sides of our culture.... Assies have our beer swilling yobbos - & our "honest johney" PM RLA>> ... known to congradulate some Australian, in Oz, claiming "the RLA>> 5th" for acknowledging their indigenous origins.. SD> Heh. Now that's funny. & it's taken you this long to work out that I'm an evil person >... RLA>> ... my _only_ "3rd world"ish comment has always involved the RLA>> Health system & how resistant diseases ... develop ... SD> Concerning the health system: it's all about money, ...[chomp]... Agreed. SD> ... resistant diseases: ... subject of interest to me... Nurse for nearly 10 years, had a solid interest before studying medical anthropology SD> ... If you'd like to continue this, netmail me. :) Have to do a test to see if I can get there. Although with FIDO shrinking that problem seems to have gone away. >... SD>> ... should be proud to be a citizen of your country too and show SD>> respect for others by not "bashing" other countries. RLA>> Just back up here a moment Sean. I said I _know_ people who RLA>> "Yank Bash" ... [chomp]... Hell I'm well known to even _talk_ RLA>> to Yanks SD> I'm sorry; I ment that as a generalization (not necessarily SD> aimed at you personally). SD> I should have worded that "Those who tend to bash the US SD> should..."; my apologies if you took it that way. Thanks for clearing that up. My observations suggest that those who do only do so when provoked. They certainlly don't go slagging off at random. A good example was one occassion when a yank was tearing strips of this (Australian) bloke 'cause he wasn't going to drive to the other side of the state to get something. Just couldn't realise that in most cases in Australia the "Other side of the state" could be driven in 48 hours if the driver didn't waste time with "silly" things like rest stops, water, food, water, petrol, water & speed limits ... did I forget water?? The "Yank Bashing" was the result of the guy in question just refusing to accept that an Australian State couldn't be travelled as quickly as an American one & started treating everyone who protested as being lazy 'cause he could travel that quickly. He _seemed_ to be claiming that he was better than the rest of the world 'cause his state was small enough to easily travel from one side to the other.
