Witch, in that verse, comes from theHebrew  word kashaph, according to
Strong's 
Concordance. It's definition is:

1) (Piel) to practice witchcraft or sorcery, use witchcraft
                 1a) sorcerer, sorceress (participle)


The word is also translated as sorcerors in several places.

The point should be have been moot if the witch-hunters were actually
following the Bible, 
because the Old Testmament rules against witches were done away with
thousands of years 
ago.
