Subj : Enlightenment... To : All From : Rachel L. Akers Date : Mon Jan 01 2001 01:59 am In a weird mood at the moment.. Sorry if anyone's offended Rai The priest came to Coyote's door and knocked. Now, Coyote loves holy men, but still the visit surprised him, because they hardly ever ventured into his neighborhood. With great pleasure, he invited the wise old sage in. "I have pursued enlightenment my whole life," the priest explained. "I have sought it out everywhere, yet still it eludes me. Finally, you are my last resort. If you fail me, I feel I will die unenlightened." "Oh!" Coyote clapped. "I am more than happy to help! I have enlightenment wrapped in some cloth in the icebox. Please feel free to help yourself." The priest looked puzzled. He sat a long minute pondering. Started to speak, but seemed to reconsider. Then thought hard for even longer. "So, you say that with enlightenment I will find the ability to help myself and others?" He asked. "No, I'm saying there's some in the fridge," Coyote repeated. "Just go get it." "It's some state of mind of 'getting it'?" The priest replied. "If by that, you mean walking over the kitchen and taking what you need. Yes," Coyote answered patiently. "Walking. So enlightenment is some kind of journey?" "It's not that far from here to the kitchen. Just that next room." "Enlightment is a transition, like entering a new room?" "The kitchen! Right there!" "Then it is like an environment where we prepare our nourishment?" "How about I just go get you some?" Coyote continued. "You can bring me enlightenment? What must I do?" "You just wait here while fetch it over." "But, I've already tried meditation," the priest complained. "No, you don't have to meditate. Just wait here." Coyoted stood to retrieve the enlightment. The Priest stood too. "Where are you going?" Coyote asked. "I'm following you, master." "No, don't follow. Just wait. I'll return with your enlightenment." "You'll return. After being dead for three days?" "Dead? I'm not dying! I'm just going to the icebox." "You must take a journey to a frozen underworld?" "No. No journey. It won't even take me long." "Then, the final days are at hand, and this world will end soon when you return." "No!" Coyoted yelled, slowly emphasizing each word. "Sit here. I'm going to bring you some enlightment." Coyoted rushed into the kitchen, retrieving the enlightment. In moment, he had returned to the sitting room, but the priest was gone. He wasn't under the chair or in the bathroom. Looking out the front door, Coyoted spotted the priest halfway up the road. When Coyote called holding up the enlightment, the priest looked over his shoulder and waved, "I'm going to go help others, like you said!" And he continued on his way. Not one to let well baked enlightenment go to waste, Coyote popped open a beer and enjoyed it all himself. --- Msged/2 4.00 * Origin: Elfwhere - The POINTy eared POINT (3:640/531.2379) .
