Subj : Plugging Netware into Peer-to-Peer Windows Hub KILLS Internet Connect To : Justin Moss From : Serg Agarkoff Date : Mon Sep 25 2000 01:32 am Hi, Justin! Sunday September 24 2000, Justin Moss writes to All: JM> I hope you can help ... Who knows? :) JM> 5 x Windows 98SE networked using Peer-to-Peer (worked happily for 6 JM> months) Windows Internet Connect Sharing installed (worked happily JM> for 6 months) JM> As soon as we plug the cable from the Netware LAN machine into the spare JM> port, Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is disabled across the entire JM> network. JM> NB: File access over the network is still possible, it is only the ICS JM> that is disabled. Few additional questions: 1. What is the protocol you uses for NW? IPX/SPX, NWIP, or something else? 2. Do you know what does ICS do? 3. What NW client do you use? MS' or Novell's? ICS is the simple proxy-server, and it may (and IMHO should) be replaced with another proxy. I haven't tried NWIP, only IPX and I had have no any troubles. But I did not used winblows built-in ICS. I prefer to use 3rd-party proxies. The freeware ProxyI (www.analogx.com) worked (and works) perfectly without any network conflict. === Cut === AnalogX Proxy is designed to be simple, small, and easy to use. It currently only supports the following protocols: HTTP (web browsers) HTTPS (secure web browsers) SOCKS4 (TCP proxying) SOCKS4a (TCP proxy w/ DNS lookups) SOCKS5 (partial support, no UDP) NNTP (usenet newsgroups) POP3 (receiving email) SMTP (sending email) FTP (file transfers) === Cut === Aren't these protocols enough for your needs? AnalogX guys updating their products frequently and their products are free and handy. Try it! Or buy something like WinGate, WinProxy and so on. WBW, Serg p.s. Also, your situation may be a part of BGates' marketing FUD policy. :-( --- Troublemaker v.3.0.1 * Origin: Jew Smile MO station, Birobidzhan, JAR, +7-426-226-8486, (2:5041/1) .
