Subj : Server crashing To : Ian Moote From : Leonard Erickson Date : Thu Nov 09 2000 03:20 pm -=> Quoting Ian Moote to LEONARD ERICKSON <=- IM> Ohhhh! You're running PMView on the OS/2 box, but you're creating the IM> thumbnails on the Netware volume!! Yeah, that makes coming up with a IM> diagnostic procedure a little more difficult. [:) Yeah, the reason for the convoluted setup is that I found a utility that not only spots identical files, but can spot (most of the time) "similar" graphics files. Things like re-sized images, or cartoons/anime game frames that have different facial expressions, but are otherwise the same. But it only runs under Win9x. :-( IM> Well, since you're planning on installing the v4.2 anyway, maybe just IM> work around it for now. For the amount of time that you've spent IM> recovering from these crashes, installing the Backup Exec and NetWare IM> v4.2 could be considered an _investment_. [:) The reason for the delay is that I installed the "eval" (ie time limited) version of Backup Exec that came with NW 4.2. I did it right after a crash a few months back (The first crash I had in 2000). And not until *after* the first time I ran it (and it stored the "install date info in the bindery or some other inaccessible place) did I see that the reboot after the crash had set the system date to Jan 1, 1980. So the eval expired 20 years ago... :-( BTW, that bit with the date is *annoying*. I've upgraded the BIOS of the PC, it doesn't have a Y2K problem. And if I shut down the server, the date is fine. But if it crashes, the date is set to Jan 1, 1980 when I reboot. And the time isn't changed at all! --- FMailX 1.59b/beta * Origin: Shadowshack (1:105/51) .
