Subj : NETSCAPE...WHAT ELSE? To : Mike Barrett From : Ed Vance Date : Thu Jan 18 2001 05:59 am MB> There was an article in our local newspaper a couple of days ago that said MB>netzero and especially Juno will be phasing out their free web service MB> pretty soon. If Juno keeps Email free then I'll be OK, since I can use Juno 4 for W95 a few times a month, on my other computer, to grab any messages my UnLearned friends send me with Attachments. I'm still wanting to use this 7 year old DOS/W3.1 486 until the smoke rolls out of it. And then I'll try to look for a AT (not ATX) motherboard, if I can find one, to ressurect it. (I'm still wonder what that will be like -- W3.1 at 450+Mc/s, WOW!???) MB> Last but not least, i received a CD from AOL today.. Free 700 hours MB> trial and no credit card required!!! And it said it runs on win 3.1, too! They may not want a Credit Card but I expect the fine print still says that they want to use a AUTOMATIC WITHDRAWAL from a persons checking account, just like it was in 1984 when I wanted to use the FREE Hours from CompuServe but refused to allow them access to my account. Somewhere around here I still have that offer that came with my 300 baud Commodore Vic-Modem. MB> Me? I basically IPAD through a BBS for Internet service.. costs me $7 MB> a month... I looked in my BBS Abbreviations List and couldn't find IPAD in it. If I have to pay for internet services, I'll pay a Local ISP to connect. $14.95/mo. is the same amount I paid the last ISP I used. Except for getting Complaints from some Web Pages about my browser not being able to read their Page, NS 4.08 worked fine with W3.1 for me. I figure the problem is with the Page Writer not wanting to write their page so everyone, whatever they use, can view it. I missed seeing Mail not being in the Base 4.08 Navigator but I noticed when I D/Led the Base version of Communicator 4.75 for W95, the Mail feature was put back in. Would you know if there is a later 16 bit Navigator than version 4.08 for Win3.1 users, and if Mail is added back to it? I could go to home.netscape.com/download/archive...... and find out myself but just thought I'd just be lazy and ask here in the echo. --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-2 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:2320/38) .
