I've got Communicator 4.08 on my Win 3.1 system. I have optimised the config.sys and autoexec.bat and have 20 Meg. RAM. I've no trouble with crashes though I did with an earlier release of Communicator, 4.05 or .06 I think was screwy and caused me trouble. Use the /noems switch on Himem in the config.sys, have 16 or more Meg. RAM and you should be OK. The -only- time I crash is when I hit a web site with some bad HTML and that is relatively infrequent. I use a later release of both smartdrv and himem.sys than came with Windows and DOS 5.0 as well as a replacement com driver for the modem and have modified windows\system.ini considerably. Cybercom is the freeware comm driver. If you've less than 16 Meg. memory I suggest the older Netscape 3.01 dial up trial version. Still banging away with this old 486 with no trouble. --- MultiMail/PBellDOS v0.35 * Origin: Get all your fido mail here.. www.docsplace.org (1:3603/140) .
