Subj : Dates and Times To : All From : Ed Vance Date : Wed Sep 26 2001 03:04 pm I often wondered what the string of numbers mean that I see in my Bookmark file when viewing it with LIST.COM (DOS). I am preparing to Install NS Communicator 4.75 Complete on Drive D: and then Remove NS Navigator 4.08 Base from Drive C:. I wanted to keep my History (NETSCAPE.HST) and Bookmarks (BOOKMARK.HTM) and put them in 4.75 later on. After saving NETSCAPE.HST and also doing a SaveAs from the History window, ditto for the Bookmark stuff, I just had to look at the 4 files that were saved. Historys' SaveAs file was much smaller than the Copy I made of NETSCAPE.HST. It's easier to see the Dates and Times of what I had done though. While looking at something I did today 26 September 2001 I noticed that the Date/Time Code had increased a digit from its' usual "9xxxxxxxx" format to a larger "1xxxxxxxxx" size. Being as nosey as I am about this here computer stuff I had to try to calculate on my own what the figures meant but no luck. By looking at it, it seems that it "might" be a Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) format 5 bytes long. I'm not sure. Here are some example of Dates and Times and what appears in either the History window or in Bookmark Properties. History window or Bookmark Properties The Coded Numbers -------------------------------------------- 8/7/2000 10:11PM "965700680" 7/20/2001 12:31PM "995603472" 9/6/2001 11:55PM "999834912" 9/6/2001 11:58PM "999835112" 9/26/2001 ??????? "1001526873" 9/26/2001 ??????? "1001527364" The reason for the "Question Marks" for the last two entries is because History only tells me "Less than 6 Hours old" instead of giving me the Date and Time for the entries. I could have waited until tomorrow to check it again and get the correct Time for the entries but I want to ask my Question NOW! ;-D TIA Ed --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-3 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:2320/38) .
