Put the IP or domain in the "name" field FV> of the Nodelist. Standardize an IP flag ("IP" would do) that tells IP FV> mailers to access the finger daemon on the default "Fidonet" port at FV> the IP/domain address listed to get the information on what the Node FV> is capable of and what port(s). Yup, read the whole thing, and agree in general. Just like to make one comment on what to do with the domain name. It might be vanity on my part, or ego, but my bbs /IS/ called Milky Way. It's not milkyway.somewhere.com just as my name isn't glewicky@somewhere.com You may most certainly send me a msg to my email address but I would hope that you would address me by my given name. Likewise you may binkp to my bbs at it's address but I do hope that when you speak of it, you use it's given name, just like you use my given name when speaking of me, hopefully. :) I'll be binkp capable by the next nodelist, already am to my inet links, but I will be adding my address in the IBN flag, because I see no reason why I should have to change my bbs's given name to suit the nodelist, for exactly the same reason why I see no reason why I should have to change my own name to suit the nodelist. Small point? Maybe, but in this day and age of de-personalization, I think we should do whatever it takes to retain a modicum of personality within the nodelist. If we are going to fix things, then I think that there should be a way to have the ip address in some other place on the line as well. We can keep the usage of the bbs name field for the domain name in ions, or for pots/ions for those who don't care and for brevity's sake as well, but not make it manditory. Dammit, I am 2 personae. I am Gordon Lewicky and I am Milky Way and I am damn proud of both names! :) Cheers...
