I keep hearing covers of Jimmy Reed, or Jim Johnson and it is never quite the same. The thing to keep in mind is that tastes evolve. A group like Queen might not even have been popular today. Musical styles on the airwaves today are too different. Your appreciation of the cover you heard may not coincide with the current idiom. I was listening to Santana's latest release today and quite honestly I'm starting to find him quaint and he is borderline pandering. A great melody doesn't need a virtuoso to make it great. I think we should leave unique performances in the past where they belong and appreciate where music is evolving to. I find an honest cover isn't degrading. M*i*k*e ....
