Subj : FRIENDLY WARNING To : STEVE KEMP From : David Duvall Date : Sat May 15 2004 11:34 pm *** Quoting STEVE KEMP from a message to DAVID DUVALL *** DD>Is it because a lot of these bands seem like they are copying secular DD>bands, SK> Huh? SK> Since when is "that which is copied" is secular"? It's not. I think a couple friends have commented before about a band/bands being a Christian version/s of whoever. I can think of one band that sounds very similar to Emperor. I think it was Sanctifica (sp?). I guess either a copycat band or just generic of whatever style. There are quite a few original Christian bands. Check out Tourniquet. If you want to hear a really good drummer, that's enough reason right there. They range from Rock to Thrash Metal. SK> Point is, what religious bands should they copy? None. They should just be influenced by who they like. :) SK> Methinks your arguments is silly. For what you are saying is that SK> "Christian bands" can't adapt to current trends, or to their own more SK> modern wants, without being called followers of "trends"...but I SK> don't see you complaining about EVERYONE else that "evolves" within SK> the music scene. I don't think I was trying to make an argument at the time, but just asking if that's why that person/s didn't like Christian bands. I do think some bands sound a lot like others. Maybe some do it on purpose to get Christian fans. I don't know. I listen to bands for the music. Sometimes I may not buy something because of content, but I am interested in the music for the music. SK> AGAIN, it's a moot point, IMO. SK> Christians can do whatever everyone else does without MY judging It doesn't both me either about what people want to play. Even secular bands seem to be following a trend and probably could be deemed a copycat band. It's popular now for melodic metal. I know of two bands, one Christian, one looks secular, being compared to some melodic metal bands. So if people like In Flames, Soilwork, etc., they should check out that band. :) Btw, have you heard Killswitch Engage? --- MirageNet HQ! * Origin: The InnerSpace BBS - 757-491-2322 - MirageNet HQ!
