Subj : FRIENDLY WARNING To : DAVID DUVALL From : STEVE KEMP Date : Fri May 14 2004 02:04 am DD>BS> I'm a Christian too, but in my "world" people aren't strictly DD>BS> Christian, so we do nearly not have any Christian music. DD>what are your thoughts (you and anyone else who wants to answer this) DD>on Christian music. Well, "Christian Music" (the "Christian music scene") is something quite different than bands that happen to have Christian members. MOST U.S. bands would surely fit in the latter category. DD>Do you think bands are being ignored because of DD>the lyrical content or just simply because of their beliefs? No and no. ;) Who is being ignored? Christian SCENE artists are ignored BY THE PUBLIC because people see what they are...preachers! AND because they tend to SUCK! Bands that happen to mention, in passing, spiritualism or even overt positive references to religion are all over the dial though. It's NOT like it's "Atheist Radio". It's anything but! DD>I know P.O.D. is a Christian band and I never thought they'd be this DD>popular. Why not? Myself, I would expect it! I would have signed them! Look at the demographics! Latinos (whom are largely religious) + rockers = good sales! (then comes the novelty factor + musicianship) The label was thinking "Los Lobos with metal attitude". SIGNED! Then came the money! DD>I probably would have never thought they'd even have one DD>song on the radio. That's weird. I'm an atheist and I can rock to P.O.D. DD>Chevelle (supposedly) fits this category (I don't DD>know why because I don't see anything like it in their lyrics, but I DD>only have one album by them), I can't see how Chevelle is religious either. And I have ALL of their stuff. Not that their being religious would matter. Hey, I'm a atheist, like I said, so I live with, work with, grew up with, and can't bother but stumble over religion in EVERY aspect of my live...from in school when I was a kid to the money I have in my pocket. I can't expect that most music wouldn't reflect that reality too. DD>Evanescence I think was considered one DD>at one point I think that that is because of the ethereal voice of the lead vocalist only. Hey, I was at a LIVE (the band) concert many years ago when they (the band) were serious anti-religionists and an older female in the audience was doing the "Praise Jesus" dance because she thought that Ed was singing FOR Jesus. Of course she was wrong. (nowadays, I don't know about LIVE though. seems they may have gone religious. but then I think that about TOOL too! I still love both bands though....even if they ARE/may be traitors to reality) ;) DD> Anyway, does anyone DD>else have thoughts on this (if this is on topic)? My thoughts are primarily offered above. OH, and Fred Durst...the filth talking jerk of Limp Bizkit fame is a professed Christian! HORK! He almost didn't sign Disturbed to his label because of their demo's "blasphemous" art-work. But this guy tries to tell everyone that will believe him that he "slept with" both Britney Spears AND Christina Aguilara. Quite a "Christian" he, eh! ;) In short, what IS Christian is subjective. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a * Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:275/311) .
