Subj : TRIP To : ALL From : MARY THOMAS Date : Fri Jun 23 2000 03:52 am .. Hello Michael and Bill ! Thought I would drop in and just tell a few things of our recent trips. Nothing big, but just something I did enjoy. Our first was to Rock's Pond Campground, Eutawville, S.C. We pulled our 31 foot airstream and our son and his wife followed pulling their boat. I must mention Molly also, the Golden Retriever!! Her first camping trip! We had a great time, but fishing was not at its best, due to the drop of 25 degrees the week before. However, some guys from N.C. had some good catches, so shared those with us :) Mike and Jim did catch ONE fish the whole time. Me....I caught turtles :( :( :( :( We all had our bicyles, so spent time riding those around the park too. Introduced Molly to the water, and you never saw a funnier looking expression on her face as she went out into the water for the first time. After the bottom dropped out, she went under, but figured out quick enough how to dog paddle and from there on out, she did just fine. Now she LOVES the water. Our next trip: June 4th to Dothan, AL, to attend our granddaughter's High School graduation. The whole four years she had a 4.0 average !!!! Next year I guess we will attend our grandson's graduation from Mississippi State ! Her graduation was Saturday, so after that, she had wanted to go to Applebees so went there for lunch. Their small salads with blackened chicken was good and enough for me. Now that was really a weird weekend. The next weekend of the 11th. Ray and family were going to be coming to GA. Ray was going to drive his truck to take the lil 4 wheel scooter to Bev dad to use. Then Bev was going to drive her old car to GA to sell to her sister. Then grandson and his girl were going to follow driving Bev's car. So on the return trip to AL, Ray would drive his truck. Bev and the grandson and his girl would come back in Bev's car....TILL They all (Jim, Bev, Ray) got this bright idea ! Jim called Mike and had Mike get Jim a pass on ASA. Jim got up real early Sunday a.m. drove Ray's truck with the scooter to Bev's dad's house. Left the scooter and truck at Bev's dad's house. Mike picked Jim up. Jim went home got his V.W. drove to the car place. Parked his car. Took the shuttle to the airport, caught ASA and was back in Dothan at 12:10 p.m. !! Whew ! Later on after resting...Ray, Jim and I drove back to GA. Ray spent the night and left Monday a.m. to return his truck to home in AL. So Friday when the gang was to come to GA on the 11th, they only had to come up in two cars and all return in ONE ...What a weekend that was! Next trip: On June 11th, Jim and I headed to Greenville, S.C. and visited with Morgan Smith and his lovely wife, Mary Frances. We had previously met Morgan a couple of years ago and when he found out we were going to be in S.C., we made our plans to stop by and visit with them again ! It was a beautiful day and we had a great time together. This time we took pictures !!!! We left Morgan's and headed on to Clinton, S.C. where my 50th class reunion was to be held on Sat evening 12th. We had no sooner got into our room, when the phone rang. Hi...we are going out to eat...as since we had not eaten, Net said we will stop by and pick you up!! Net, Jim and another friend stopped by and we headed back to Greenville to eat, as there is just not much in Clinton anymore :(. Ate at the Olive Garden ! Then after we left the O.G., stopped in another small town and all got a Baskins and Robbins Ice Cream....but not me . Thought I had better do without that :(. Saturday finds Jim and I heading to Padgett's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Cross Keys, Union County, S.C. where my ancestors are buried. Wanted to check and make sure mother's site was in good condition. Found a cousin there, so he used his weekwacker to clean it off a lil more. While there I asked about another cemetery, of Dillard - Ducketts. The guy (another cousin) knew where it was so took Jim and I to the area. So a walk in the woods and we found the place. This time I took pictures !! Back to Clinton and the reunion! All had a great time! About 50 folks were there, altho quite a few of our classmates have passed on :(. Sunday finds Jim and I back in Cross Keys to visit another cousin. Got her husband to show me where another old cemetery is. We walked I think thru straw field and sticker bushes, but got to the area, only could not get to where the stones were. The sticker bushes were just surrounding that area. But I took pictures and hopefully that will be my guide as to where those stones are. Back to Clinton, had lunch with classmates and just spent a leisure afternoon with them. Monday a.m., headed home by way of Hwy 72 thru towns. Stopped by the Parks Flower Place in Greenwood, S.C. Beautiful place. (I order plants from them from time to time). I picked up two beautiful hanging baskets for $2.00. Next stop was Abbeville, S.C. Parked the car and walked around the town square. In and out of some antique shops as well! Next stop Elberton, GA to visit a niece and her family. On down by-pass Athens and found a couple of antique shops and flea markets. Stopped for some fruit and the guy showed Jim a cute lil pedal car and also a baby stroller. Well, we had no room in the car for anything else ..so went on home. Next day Jim takes the sub. back to the place and comes home with more fruit and the pedal car and the stroller to boot! Now home again !!! Till my bus tour trip to Memphis, TN, Graceland, and the Grand Casino in MS !!
