Subj : Re: Do you remember the first time you saw Monty Python, movie or TV se To : Guilbert From : Buzz Date : Wed Aug 17 2005 04:40 am From: Buzz <> I remember going into school some time in 1969 and another pupil, Alex Sill (don't I have a good memory?), asked me if I'd watched Monty Python's Flying Circus the night before. I replied, "I don't like circuses"! Once he'd explained that it wasn't a circus act but a comedy show, I watched it and liked it, and so from then on watched it every week. Of course, in those days we didn't live in the affluent society of today where kids have tvs, dvd players, games consoles etc. in their bedrooms; in those days we had a single tv in the living room, so as a 13 year old I had to watch Monty Python with my parents. I seem to remember they didn't find it very funny :-) And they particularly didn't like the parts where Carol Cleveland "got them out for the boys", so to speak. I too remember watching Do Not Adjust Your Set, which I believe was made in black and white? As well as featuring three future Pythons, it also featured David Jason, Denise Coffey, and the wonderful Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. I never got to see them live, but I have seen Neil Innes as a solo act and also in The Rutles. (I believe The Rutles will be playing at The Beatles festival in a couple of weeks' time, so I may go and see them again). buzz On Thu, 11 Aug 2005 18:38:13 GMT, "Guilbert" wrote: >Here in the UK I started watching Python from the very first episode. > >I had heard of John Cleese from other radio and TV shows he had done, >such as "I'm sorry I'll read that again" on the radio, or "At last the 1948 >show" on TV. > >I had not heard of any of the other pythons, although I found out later >I had watched three of them (Palin, Jones and Idle) in a UK children's >TV show called "Do not adjust you set". > >I loved Python from the start (I have always loved that sort of zany >comedy), but the sketch that made me fall off the chair in laughter >was a short sketch of Mr Gumby flower arranging. > >He proceeded to turn the flowers upside down, stuff them in a vase, >and hit them with a hammer. > >I cried with laugher and slid off the armchair on to the floor. > >Alan > > > --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5 * Origin: FidoNet MONTE <--> alt.fan.monty-python (1:379/45) .
