I'm just reading the Pythons by the Pythons-book. Michael Palin mentions there:

"...Vic Lownes couldn't stand Ken Shabby. That was one bit of grossness too 
far, which is a shame because we all liked Ken Shabby and I think there was a 
general feeling that this was a soft decision. So that was taken out."

Victor Lownes was the producer of the film.
