Subj : So How Come ? To : All From : Thom LaCosta Date : Fri Aug 04 2000 04:37 pm * Copied (from: echolist) by Thom LaCosta using timEd 1.10.y2k+. Hello All! Every now and again I get a message telling me the robot didn't process an update message...and, it didn[t send back an error message. Here's how it works. When the robot sees a message to Echolist at 1:1/21 it processes the message. (So, if you send it to echolist at 1:261/1352 it ain't gonna work). The first thing the crafty bugger does is process the message, based on the subject line. It expects to see: MOD UPD MOD RUL MOD DEL ECHO QUERY If you don't have one of those subjects, it dutifuly saves the message to another area, and since you didn't tell it what to do...it dutifully does nothing. Given you had one of the correct subject lines, the robot does its thing, and if it's a MOD UPD or MOD DEL, it sends a confirmation message to the address submitting the update and posts an announcement in the Echolist area. If the format of the message is faulty, the robot sends an error message, and as we all know, if the password is not correct, the robot sends a message to the moderator and one to the submitter saying that the attempt was not succcessfull. So.....IF you send a message and get no response, the most likely reasons are that you sent it to the wrong node number, or the subject line was wrong. Best Advice - Send it again, but this time cc 1:261/1352...if I see the cc, I know to look at the subject line and/or message format to ascertain the nature of the probelem. It should be obvious that if you wait until the lasr minute to send in an update...you're playing with fire if there's a problem.
