Subj : Just so there's no misunderstanding To : All From : Thom LaCosta Date : Thu Jul 13 2000 05:35 pm * Copied (from: elist) by Thom LaCosta using timEd 1.10.y2k+. Hello All! Apologies to those who know how the robot works...but it appears some folks don't. A. The robot sends the ack of a MOD UPD message to the address that submitted the update. It doesn't know if the submitter id the moderator, co-moderator or the man in the moon. Examples: Moderator of echo submits MOD UPD - Robot sends ack to the address from which the moderator sent the message Third Party submits MOD UPD - Robot sends ack to third party to the address from which the third party sent the message Note that in the second example the moderator is NOT notified by the robot B. The robot sends warning message to the MODERATOR at the address that the moderator has in the echotag listing. Cautions: If the moderator's address in the database is NOT correct, the robot will send the warning message to what might be a bad address Catch 22 occurs IF the moderator depends on third party, as third party doesn't get the warning, and with a bad moderator address, the moderator doesn't get the warning OR...third party updates record with bad moderator address...5 months later the warning message is sent to the moderator address on file...which means it doesn't get there(goto Catch 22 above, replicate error). C. Caveat: The echolist keeper is NOT responsible for mail that can not be delivered to a moderator who does NOT have a current address in the database. The echolist keeper is NOT responsible to notify a moderator of an update to the database for an echo if the moderator is NOT the person making the update. D. Moral of the Story: Moderators are STRONGLY encouraged to submit their own MOD UPD messsages with current addresss to insure that they receive confirmations and warnings. E. Hint: If a moderator changes his/her fidonet/internet address, he/she should submit a MOD UPD message that reflects the current address. F. In A Nutshell: It's the responsibility of the moderator to keep the echotag listing current and in a timely manner. If the moderator can't (won't) do that, all bets are off, things are up in the air, and TS chits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.
