That's been done several times..

I guess you never say the Star Trek movie with Kirk, Spock and the Bald headed 
woman that save Earth from "VGER" that came to Earth to mate with it's Creator 
that turned out to be "VOYAGER"..

Or the Old Star-trek TV Show where Kirk and Spock out-withed "NO-MAD", that was 
on it's way back to Earth to delete all Carbon based infestation,
and when when Spock Mind Melted with it, he discovered that No-Mad was a merger 
of an Alien Science Survey satellite and Voyager, and was using Voyager memory 
of it's Creator to find it's way back to Earth...
