Subj : Anaheim Angels To : Rob Swindell From : Joe Siegler Date : Wed Feb 28 2001 12:22 pm -> Well "I" didn't trade him... :-) I guess they decided we needed an -> outstanding shortstop prospect more than another young pitcher. It -> was a bit of a surprise to me too. I'm sure they know more about Seth than -> we do so perhaps his future isn't as bright as it once seemed? Well, hey - the Rangers traded Ryan Dempster to the Marlins, look how that worked out (grumble). You also got one of our good pitchers right as he was going bad - Ken Hill. See where he's trying out for the Devil Rays bullpen this year. -> I hadn't heard those stories and will assume that he doesn't do that now -> until I hear differently. My main concern is that he's willing to take a -> pitch and hit more for average (we don't need another 200 strike-out -> victim). Well, I'm pretty sure he doesn't do that now - but he did when he was here, if I remember correctly. I'd have to research the matter to be sure. -> Oh, don't even say it! I'm optomistic about the labor agreement... but then -> I'malso optomistic about the NASDAQ, so take that for what it's worth. :-) Well, McGwire signed a two year contract with the Cardinals today (2 yr/30 mil), and he always said that he'd retire before going through another strike, so I'm hopeful that this is a good sign - although it's not a rock solid outlook. I actually got back into baseball big time right AFTER the last strike - so I'm kind of odd in that regard. I've *ALWAYS* been a baseball fan, I've been going since I was a kid of about 6 or 7 or so, but it wasn't until 1995 that I became pretty hardcore, memorizing lineups, uniform numbers, tracking players all over the place on many teams - basically paying attention to the SPORT, as opposed to just my local team.
