Subj : Expos To : Lucien Carrier From : Ed Grinnell Date : Sun Jul 23 2000 08:17 am Lucien was hit by a Randy Johnson fastball for uttering: LC> Not the case for the Expos. We can see one of the best baseball players LC> (Vladimir Guerrero, Jose Vidro, Dustin Hermanson, Javier Vasquez...) but A lot has been made about the gap between teams like Montreal and New York but when that gap was a mere $100,000-$150,000 (average salary), Montreal was letting their stars go and pocketing the profit. The gap has grown but Montreal is more to blame than their fans. If they had kept their base, they'd have been able to get more for their local media rights plus have more money from attendance. Ownership got greedy and spent their profits on themselves rather than keeping an excellent team together. I don't blame the fans for showing their displeasure at a team that won't make an effort to win. I think that the Cubs need fans more like this than the ones that they have. --- TrekEd 1.00 * Origin: Where did you go, Joe Charboneau? (1:170/1701) .
